With 4 year old twin boys in the house that are very fussy eaters it’s a nightmare to get them to eat fruit and vegetables. I was looking for alternative ways to get them to eat healthier foods, especially fruit. So, when I was asked to review the Salter NutriPro 1200 Blender I was delighted to give it a try as it allowed me to make fruit-packed smoothies and hopefully aid getting more fruit and veg into the boys, without their knowledge!
In the box is:
1x NutriPro 1200 Blender base unit, 6-blade lid attachment, 1 litre blending cup, 2x 800ml blending cups, 2 easy-drink lids, 2 storage lids and instruction manual that includes recipes.
I have never used a smoothie/juice maker or blender before so after reading the instructions and seeing that it very simple to use I was eager to try it. So, I out so popped out to the supermarket and picked up a variety of fruits.
The manual that comes with the blender contains 50 recipes, all with great sounding names like Morning Zing Zinger (spinach, apple, oats, olive oil and water) and Fighting Fit Energiser (walnuts, spinach, banana, flax seeds, water or almond milk). I wanted to start with something simple that I was fairly confident the boys would drink so I went for a plain banana smoothie (there is no recipe for this in the manual but Google is my friend).
So for my very first attempt I added a banana, some Greek yogurt and milk and following the instructions in the manual started blending for 5-10 seconds at a time until the mixture appeared nice and smooth (if you leave blending for 30 seconds or more there is a possibility of overheating and overblending can ruin the taste).
When it looked nice and smooth I poured some in into each for the supplied 800ml cups for my willing testers to sample. It was a mixed result with one loving it and one not so keen. On tasting it myself I found it to be quite a sharp taste so tried again but this time adding some ice cream. A much better result this time with both boys drinking it.
As the fruit smoothies have gone down a treat we have also experimented with apples, bananas and strawberries and will soon be trying some of the recipes from the book.
The NutriPro 1200 Blender is fast and powerful with 1200w, and combined with the 6-blade lid attachment creates really smooth smoothies which lock in all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals from the fruit and veg used. With its deep red base it looks very smart and is easy to use and very easy to clean.
The Salter NutriPro 1200 Blender is a great way to get your recommended 5-a-day and an excellent way to encourage even the fussiest of eaters like the twins. While we have some bad efforts with a bit of experimenting we have made some good tasting, reasonably healthy smoothies that help get fruit into the boys. It blends and smooths very fast, creating perfectly smooth smoothies (no lumpy bits). We are yet to try juices but can’t see any problems with this.
So whether you just want to create your own healthy drinks and smoothies or, like me, have fussy little eaters, the Salter NutriPro 1200 Blender is the perfect addition to any kitchen and is a great help for maintaining a balanced and healthy diet.
I can’t recommend it highly enough!
