Enjoy the Outdoors this Summer

The sun is shining, the days are bright and welcoming. We should all be outside enjoying it as much as we can. Fresh air and enjoying the outdoors, something that we could all probably do with a bit more of. That doesn’t mean we all have to get up and start training to run marathons. Get the kids playing with toys and games in the garden and the local parks, go for a walk and take in your surroundings whilst exploring your local area, go for a picnic, BBQ for friends in the garden, go camping, go for a run, play golf, visit a theme park or simply sit outside, relax and soak up the sunshine whilst reading a book or newspaper. There are plenty of ways just to enjoy the outdoors, get some fresh air and if you can, get some exercise.

I have been trying out some great products that can help everyone enjoy the outdoors this summer. That includes a portable wireless speaker which is perfect for the garden or picnics (where an electronic insect bite healer is perfect), a Kindle Paperwhite that can be enjoyed absolutely anywhere so you can lose yourself in a good novel, toys and games, such as the fun Trampoline Tennis, and even some Travel Games, to keep the kids and families active and entertained outside and even sports equipment and hiking boots to enjoy the sun (or rain) whilst keeping active. All fun things to do. I have even been trying out some portable chargers so that I can keep my phone topped up and fully charged whilst out and about.

Hopefully we will have a few months of good weather so that we can enjoy our outdoor spaces as much as we can. Being outdoors in the sun has great benefits for our health and wellbeing – apart from topping up our tans and helping to create that all-important vitamin D to keep our bodies healthy, being outside in the sun has been shown to lower stress levels, can help lower blood pressure and heart rate, and encourages physical activity (which can be something as simple as going for a walk). Just remember that whilst you are outside for whatever reason, to apply suncream and wear a hat etc. to keep your skin protected, just 10 minutes exposure to strong sun can burn the skin. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and whatever you decide to do to enjoy the outdoors, respect your surroundings and put your litter in the bin.

This summer, enjoy the outdoors as much as possible, and as safely as possible making sure to use sunglasses, hats, suncream and drink plenty of water. For advice on sun safety, visit the NHS website.

I hope to be adding new reviews to this feature throughout the summer, so when you had enough of the outside and want to relax indoors for a short while, keep checking here for new ways to make the most of the outdoors this year, be it with your partner, your kids, your friends or just by yourself.
