Jesper Jinx is back! But is he going to lose his best friend?
The Silly Old Scribber, aka a professional liar according to Jesper, (the author Marko Kitti) is back with the 6th instalment of the Jesper Jinx series; Jesper Jinx’s Best Friend.
Jesper is a prankster and has lots of stories to tell and SOS is very happy to share them with us, the readers, but only in secret (he has an agreement that he will write a book for Jesper’s eyes only). So as with the previous 5 novels (Jesper Jinx, Jesper Jinx and the Sneezing Season, Jesper Jinx and the Turkish Pepper, Jesper Jinx Goes Fishing and Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks) you need to sign the Secrecy Agreement, keep your mouth shut and zipped and tell no one as Jesper must not know the existence of these books. If he found out it would ruin the friendship between SOS and Jesper and would put a stop to future books, so as readers we would also lose out!
So back to the book. Puffington Hill is sweltering in a heatwave; so much so that even grandpas and grandmas have taken to wearing bikinis on their mobility scooters. Jesper and his best friend Oliver Oliverson are both 11 years old and Oliver has just confessed something to Jesper that upsets Jesper enough to not be his friend anymore; with the soaring heat affecting everything, Oliver has confessed to seeing Jesper’s 12 year old sister, Melinda, Jesper’s archenemy!
So as our story starts (after signing the Secrecy Agreement) we are introduced to a brief history of Jesper and Oliver and how they became best friends in the first seconds of their birth (they were born on the same day, in the same hospital in adjourning rooms).
The story then continues with Jesper plotting a new prank to get revenge on Oliver, The Sister Thief, Oliverson! But with Jesper always being unlucky things don’t turn out the way he expected.
Overall, this is a fun and entertaining story of best friends, jealousy, love and, of course, pranks! The characters are always fun and engaging. This one is slightly different from the previous books as it focuses on Jesper’s life to date and recaps some of Jesper’s previous pranks but mostly shows Jesper’s love for his best friend and his sister.
This is a great, fun and entertaining read. Primary school children will love it and so will everybody else, right up to bikini wearing pensioners whizzing around on mobility scooters.
So if you are looking for something for the kids to read during the half term holiday that will entertain and amuse them, then you have just found an ideal series.
