Having reviewed a number of various Edifier speakers over the years I always look forward to trying out new ones as I have always found them to be of great build and sound quality, so I was happy to be trying out the R2000DB bookshelf speakers this time around.
Once they arrived, the box contained: 1x active speaker, 1x passive speaker, 1x remote control, 1x speaker connecting cable, 3.5mm to dual RCA audio cable, 1x dual RCA to dual RCA cable, 1x fibre optical connecting cable and a user manual.
After unpacking, my initial thoughts were that they looked great with their high-gloss piano finish, they looked very stylish and elegant. With removeable front covers they look great with or without them fitted.
The Edifier R2000DB Speakers are 2.0 bookshelf speakers, housed in real wood (MDF), which helps reduce distortion and vibration. They have several connection options: wired – optical or RCA, or by Bluetooth 4.0. This makes them perfect for connecting to PC’s, laptops, tablets, gaming systems or even your mobile phone! Pairing via Bluetooth is extremely easy.
Once I had them connected, the sound was excellent; crystal clear with no distortion (even at the highest volume levels). I tried on RCA and Bluetooth connections and didn’t notice any difference in the sound quality. With a total output of RMS 24W × 2 + 36 W × 2, they are powerful enough for everyday use, from watching tv and film, gaming or listening to your favourite music.
Controlling the volume, bass and treble levels is easy using the supplied remote control, which is small and light, or by using the dials on the rear of the speaker.
Overall, I am very impressed with the R2000DB bookshelf speakers. Again, Edifier have created an excellent quality pair of bookshelf speakers. They are very sturdy (they weigh approx. 9.72kg), reliable and stylish with excellent sound quality and very easy to use. At around the £240 mark, they aren’t cheap, but they are definitely worth the outlay for the sound quality and aesthetics.
