Oral health and hygiene are really important. Twice daily brushing of your teeth, along with flossing, not only helps keep your teeth and gums clean but also keeps bacteria under control and can help give you a brighter whiter smile. without proper oral hygiene, bacteria can breed and that could lead to oral infections, such as tooth decay and gum disease, bad breath and see you losing your teeth. That means spending 2 minutes, twice a day, brushing your teeth is a must and a good toothbrush is absolutely essential (along with flossing and a good mouth wash). Whilst a manual toothbrush is good, an electric or sonic toothbrush is better as they brush more vigorously and deliver thousands more strokes per minute than a manual toothbrush, giving a much superior and thorough clean.
I use an electric toothbrush with a rotating head, and I think that it does an excellent job of keeping my teeth clean (I definitely noticed the difference when I switched from a manual toothbrush). Before Christmas I received the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush and it is definitely a step up from a standard electric toothbrush.
The Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush features:
- Up to 180 Days (25 weeks) Super Long Battery Life – on standby
- 5 Brushing Modes
- 38,000 RPM Motor Cleaning Power
- Dupont Diamond & W Shape Bristles
- IPX7 Waterproof
- 2 Minutes Timer & 30 Seconds Reminder
The Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush comes with a control handle, a brush head, USB-C charging cable and a user manual. It comes in two pieces, the control handle and the brush head and these just push together very easily (also makes it very easy for when you have to change the brush head). My old electric toothbrush has a round brush head that rotates, but the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush has a narrow head, just like a standard manual toothbrush, and it vibrates rather than rotates.
The toothbrush takes approximately five hours to fully charge and a full charge with give you up to 180 days (just over 25 weeks) on standby. It charges over USB (USB-C) and comes supplied with a charging cable (no charging block is supplied but we all have loads of these). The charging port is located on the bottom of the handle and is covered with a sturdy rubber cover that snaps securely in place to keep water out.
My old electric toothbrush has one mode, switch it on and brush. The Oclean Sonic Toothbrush has 5 modes: Morning Mode, Night Mode, Standard Cleaning Mode, Whitening Mode and Gentle Mode.
- Morning Mode: this is a less intensive mode than night mode with a lower pressure. It can effectively remove dental plaque caused during sleep. Has a brushing intensity of 3 stars.
- Night Mode: this is a more intensive mode that the morning mode and deeply removes food residues and dental plaque on the teeth, built up during the day, using a higher pressure. Has a brushing intensity of 5 stars.
- Standard Cleaning Mode: this is somewhere inbetween morning and night modes. Meets the requirements for routine and ordinary cleaning. Has a brushing intensity of 4 stars.
- Whitening Mode: this is a deep cleaning mode to effectively remove stains caused by smoking, drinking coffee or tea, etc. Helps gives you a whiter and brighter smile. Has a brushing intensity of 4 stars.
- Gentle Mode: this is for people that have sensitive gums. Helps to protect the health of the gums whilst fulfilling the fundamental function of removing dental plaque. Has a brushing intensity of 2 stars.
Using a toothbrush isn’t difficult, we have all done it since we were toddlers. Even with five different modes to pick from the Oclean is simple. Just power it on and press the button to cycle through the different modes – I have generally been using the morning and night modes, with the occasional whitening mode. Once switched off it remembers the last mode that was used and will start up again in this mode when you switch it back on again. With a 38,000 rpm brush speed it really helps to get your teeth sparkly clean and feeling good.
It is recommended that you brush your two for 2 minutes (I’m sure it was 3 minutes when I was growing up), brushing each quadrant (upper left, upper right, lower left and lower right). To make sure you are giving each quadrant their full attention it features a built-in 2 minute timer with a 30 second reminder so that you know when to switch and can brush each quad equally.
Overall, I found the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush to be an excellent toothbrush, one that really did do a brilliant job of cleaning my teeth. If at all possible, my teeth do seem to feel smoother and cleaner than using my standard electric toothbrush. As well as brushing teeth, rather than oscillating and rotating, the vibrating action creates move movement to remove more plaque build-up for a more through clean and even massages the gums to promote blood circulation and healthier gums. The narrower head helps me reach my back teeth easier, so I am confident all my teeth are getting a good clean (my dentist tells me I have the smallest mouth in the world, so this is a good thing).
Using the Oclean brush did take a bit of getting used to using it. Not only are there the different modes to try but initially the noise and the power of the vibration are quite something, especially if you have only used a manual toothbrush. Once I got used to the different level in power and not using a rotating brush head anymore, I was fine, and this only took a few brushes.
The battery life is extremely good, and it is very easy to charge. It states that it has up to 180 days between charges (standby). Whilst I haven’t had to charge it since its initial charge yet, the battery life will be reduced depending on factors such as how often you brush your teeth, what modes you use etc.
Whilst the brush isn’t expensive at around £35, replacement brush heads can be (I found a pack of 6 on Amazon for £19.99). But they really do an excellent job of through cleaning, so they are worth the cost, especially as 6 brush heads should last around 18 months if you change it every 3 months as recommended.
If you care about your teeth and oral hygiene, then the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush is excellent. If you are not sure, check with your dentist at your next check-up and see if a sonic toothbrush would be good for you. The next thing I need to try, as recommended by my dentist, is a water flosser to clean better between my teeth!
I can highly recommend the Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush. It is available in different colours as well, not just white!
