Building A Bar In Your Home In 4 Easy Steps

Bar

It is something that many people have dreamed about, but relatively few have done. For some people, it might seem like something that could not be easily achieved, whether due to financial reasons or space-saving concerns. However, you might be pleasantly surprised to discover that building a bar in your home can be quite easily achieved, so long as you put the right effort and focus into it. In this article, we are going to take a look at how to build a bar in your home in four easy steps. Read on to find out exactly what you need to do.

Collect Tools & Materials

Let’s assume that you are going to construct the actual bar yourself. You could get someone in to do it for you, of course, but there is no fun to that. If you are going to build the bar yourself, you first need to make sure you get hold of the right materials. For most people, a combination of MDF and 2×4 is likely to be good enough for a simple home bar. It is certainly the easiest material to work with – and it will probably cost you less than going for other methods. Either way, make sure you collect all of your materials together before you begin, as there is nothing more frustrating than discovering you haven’t got everything later on. Remember to include any surplus materials you might need, for example if you are including cast iron pub tables or stools.

Groundwork & Framework

The first thing you will need to do is lay out the groundwork. This is hugely important, as without a proper groundwork, it is unlikely that the bar will stand the test of time. Make sure you measure from the wall exactly where you want your bar to go. This is, of course, entirely up to you – but you need to make a note of it. Then you can start focusing on the framework, and this is where it starts to take shape. The framework should consist of those 2x4s held together by studs. You need to be careful at this stage, as any slight errors can turn into bigger ones later on. Take care, and try to get it exactly right first time. Once that is done, make sure you secure the framework in place.

Install The Bartop

Now come the truly exciting part: installing the bartop. This, of course, is the recognisable part, so you want to make sure it is as well done as possible. For an exemplary bar top, consider a top quality slab of wood for the top. Whatever you do go for, however, make sure it is put into position as neatly as possible. After this stage, you will probably feel that it is time for a well-deserved break!

Install The Trim

It should now actually look like a bar, but there is one more small step to get it looking perfect. You need to install the trim on the front of the bar. This avoids the sharper edges being on display, and also helps to give it a smoother, more professional looking finish.
