Block Block Burrito Review

Block Block Burrito

Have you ever been hit in the head with a burrito, thrown across the room by a loved one or even a good friend? If you have answered yes, hopefully it was a soft and squidgy burrito whilst playing the game Throw Throw Burrito and not a real one.

In our house we are always playing board games, card games and tabletop games – we love our family game nights where the phones go down, screens are off and the kitchen table becomes our competitive playing arena. We have a good variety of different games to choose from including several from the exciting Exploding Kittens who have now released Block Block Burrito, an exciting new addition that expands the playability of their Throw Throw Burrito and Throw Throw Avocado games.

Block Block Burrito is an expansion pack for the Throw Throw Burrito and Throw Throw Avocado party games, you do need to have one of these games to play it. It expands on the original games adding in the ability to defend yourself against your most trusted friends and family lobbing foodstuff at you.

In the box:

  • 2 Inflatable Tortilla Shields
  • 36 Burrito Battle Cards
  • 36 Avocado Battle Cards
  • 2 Repair Patches
  • Instructions

Throw Throw Burrito and Throw Throw Avocado are dodgeball party card games for 2-6 players aged 7 years upwards. They have a playing time of around 15 minutes and are perfect for family game nights as well as grown-up game nights. The aim of the game is to win points over two rounds whilst having to avoid airborne missiles in the form of soft and squidgy foam burritos or avocados. With the addition of Block Block Burrito there are six new battles to be played and the ability to defend yourself using an inflatable Tortilla Shield!

To play Block Block Burrito you must already own either Throw Throw Burrito or Throw Throw Avocado and the expansion pack is supplied with 36 Battle Cards for each version of the game. To play, you set up the game as you normally would but remove the 36 Battle Cards that came with the original game and replace them with the appropriate new deck of 36 cards from the expansion pack. Then inflate the two Tortilla Shields and place them on the table within reach of the players. If you have never played the game before, you can read my review of Throw Throw Burrito here.

You can also play just using the Tortilla Shields and the original Battle Cards and if you are lucky enough to own both games you can combine all the cards and use the throwable Burritos and Avocados as well as the Tortilla Shields – the instructions have rules for all ways to play.

Playing with the Block Block Burrito expansion pack allows players to block burritos or avocados thrown at them during battles – if you deflect a throwable and it hits another object it is a miss. If you deflect it and it hits another player it counts as a hit.

Overall, this expansion pack adds another excellent level of playability to an already great game. It keeps the same game play as the original game but now you have the ability to block attacks in brawls, wars and duels.

It is a very simple game to set up and play and like the original game you will need a room with a bit of space to play, making sure that you remove any breakables – especially now that you are deflecting the throwables into different directions.

The battles are fun and the ability to defend against flying burritos/avocados is excellent fun.

The layout of the internal of the box is perfect, everything in its own place, easily accessible and the game even comes with repair patches should you manage to puncture your tortillas with some overexuberant blocking and deflecting.

Block Block Burrito is an excellent addition to an already great party game that can be played by children, families or grown-ups and everybody will have a great deal of dodge or block the flying food fun. The inflatable tortilla shields take the dodgeball card game to a new level.
