The London Ghost Bus is an excellent comedy horror sightseeing tour.
With Halloween soon approaching you might want to do something a little bit different. In October 2013 I did just that for www.whatsgoodtodo.com and had a great fun experience that I can thoroughly recommend. On a dark Friday night in October I was booked onto The Ghost Bus Tours in London – a theatrical sightseeing tour around some of London’s most haunted sites. Comedy and spooky horror fused together onboard a classic 1960s London Routemaster Bus.
On arrival at the bus stop on Northumberland Avenue (just outside the Grand Hotel and opposite the Sherlock Holmes pub, just off Trafalgar Square) you are given a number – for what reason I did not know at the time. When the black double decker bus arrives you board when your number is called and take a seat anywhere you like. It is quite dark on the bus with each seating area having its own lamp for lighting. The bus is also equipped with TV screen, front and rear, so that you don’t have to keep turning around to see what is happening. There are also several cameras onboard so you can see what happens throughout the bus, including under your seat. All good so far apart from the crazy conductor lady running around the bus knocking on windows and staring in at you.
After some safety information the tour begins.
Now without going into too much detail and spoiling the tour for you if you want to go yourself, you are taken around sites that are reported to be haunted, scenes of gruesome murders or mass death such as Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and other lesser known sites but just as haunted. Each spooky tale is delivered with spooky comedy and despite the gruesome and scary topics will have you laughing all the way around (we even got to find out here the phrase “laughing your head off” came from.
Overall, this is a great comedy horror sightseeing tour. The 2 tour guides (bus conductor and health and safety officer) were absolutely brilliant. They interacted well with the passengers and on some occasions with people outside the bus while stopped at traffic lights, most of who seemed bemused at what was going on but most joined in the fun. The whole tour lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes (depending on traffic, so expect to be onboard the bus longer) and it is non-stop comedy, horror, stories and facts about our capital city.
At £21 for an adult ticket (£15 for under 16s and students) it is excellent value for money and I would love to go again. Is absolutely perfect for Halloween.
A great night out, extremely funny, highly recommended and one that I will have to do again!
Rating: 5/5
Tickets cost: £25 (adult), £17 (child), £63 (family, 2 adults 2 children)
