Exams. It’s a word that makes even us as adults, shudder with fear. While there may be a few people out there who enjoy being put under pressure in the form of an exam, most don’t enjoy them.

While it may have been a while since you last sat an exam, for your kids, it can be a testing time when exam periods come around. There’s a lot of stress and anxiety floating around, which is why it’s helpful for parents to be aware of how to help reduce this for their children.

If exams are coming up soon, here are a few tips to stop your child from stressing during their exams.

Get them to bed early

Bedtimes for children are in place for a reason and it’s important that when it comes to their exam periods, they’re adhering to this bedtime rule. Even for those in their teen years and facing exams, a good night’s sleep is going to make the world of difference.

Make sure the child is getting at least seven hours of sleep per night and going to bed early enough the night before exams so that they can get a good night’s kip. It’s important that sleep isn’t the reason for their underperformance in an exam.

Give them a healthy diet of food

To help with exam revision, a healthy diet of food is important to their routine. Eating the right foods, rather than snacking on junk all the time is going to help greatly. Be sure that they’re getting three meals a day and that those meals are made up of healthy food types.

Plenty of fresh greens and fruit are going to help power up their brains so that they feel ready to take on the exam.

Set up a space at home for studying

The right space is important when it comes to the exam period. Setting up the right space at home is going to help them manage their study time effectively and with as few distractions as possible.

Make sure that there’s a space available for them to study without getting bothered by anyone else at home or that they don’t get tempted to watch television or play on their phone. A calm space is a key for your children to stop stressing during this period of their lives.

Remind them of the bigger picture

While it may all seem like a lot now, it’s important to remind them that this part of their lives is only temporary. In fact, there are those that go through education and don’t succeed in this part of their lives to only go and find success later on.

While education is important and grades are good to have, it’s not always the be-all and end-all. Putting things in perspective can certainly help them keep calm during this stressful time.

Stopping your child from getting stressed during exams will not only help with their mental well-being but it’s going to give them the best opportunity to succeed in their exams.
