Confident? Party Game Review

Confident?

Board games, tabletop games and card games come in various guises, they can be mad, manic, frantic fun, mentally challenging, more strategic thinking sedate enjoyment, or ones that even put physical skills to the test. We love them all in our house, obviously we all have our favourites. Confident? is a different type of game, it requires no general knowledge skills, no manic race around a board, no jumping around the room trying to complete challenges and no brain-teasing logic puzzles to deduce – just the ability to guess.

Confident? is the guess-a-range party game where you just need to take an educated (or even lucky) guess as to the answer – could you guess within a range how many slices of bread there are in an average loaf of bread? You’re already thinking about it, aren’t you? What about how many countries share a land border with France? The good thing about Confident? is that you don’t have to get the answer spot on, for slices in a loaf you could suggest a range of 18-22 and score a point if the correct answer is within that range, whilst the player with the answer in the narrowest range gets 3 points.

Confident? is a game for players aged 11+ and can be played as a 2-6 player family game with a playing time of around 30 minutes, or a party game with up to thirty players.

Box contains:

  • 200 Confident question cards
  • 6 Wipeable reusable answer boards
  • 6 Drywipe reusable pens with erasers
  • 1 Reusable Scoreboard
  • 1 Reusable Scribble Board
  • Instructions

Setting up to play is simple. Just hand each player or team a wipeable answer board and a drywipe pen. Each player or team writes their name or team name on their answer board and the game is ready to play.

To play, any player can read out a question and all players answer the question at the same time writing their answer on their answer board and the difference between the two numbers. But the answer isn’t an exact answer, you guess within a range where you think the answer lies. You can have a large range if not too sure or if you are feeling confident you go for a smaller range, if you are correct the smaller the range the more points you get. Everybody reveals their answer board at the same time and then the correct answer is revealed. If this answer falls in any of the ranges of the answer boards players will get a point, the player with the smallest range will get 3 points. The first to 15 points is the winner.

On top of scoring your 1 or 3 points, you also have three ‘Confidence Boosts’ per player or team (think Who Wants to be a Millionaire lifelines) to help you on your way to the 15 point winning line. These are COPY – you can just copy the answer of the person who you think is most likely to have the answer correct, SWAP – you get to be a bit of a puppet-master and swap two of your opponent’s cards over, or DOUBLE – for when you’re super confident about your answer so can score 6 points instead of the usual three for having the best answer with the smallest range.

Overall, Confident? is an excellent fun game that they whole family can join in with as the answers are all numbers and don’t have to exact, guesswork is key (albeit an educated guess). We all thoroughly enjoyed playing the game, and the fact that it is so quick to set up and learn in a couple of minutes was definitely a big plus point for us. From opening the box to playing really is a couple of minutes, no trying to understand and explain complicated rules or constantly reading the instructions and rules.

The questions are mostly very well pitched for all age groups, and I would say that most children over the age of 11 could have a good go at them (we were playing with a 10 and 13 year old and they both played very well). Everybody had fun and laughs playing.

There are 200 question cards supplied with the game and expansion packs are available, both in physical format and even as digital downloads. The digital download packs include a Family Pack, making the game more suitable for younger players of 8+ as well as an X-rated adult only pack and a Welsh and USA edition of the game are also available.

We have all had a great time playing Confident? Easy to learn, quicker to start playing and lots of fun. It is an excellent game for family play and would be brilliant for larger party games for friends.

A simple game to learn and play, one where everyone can easily join in have fun and laughs.
