A Dark and Twisted Tide is an excellent thriller that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go until the turn of the final page.
Lacey Flint is back for a fourth investigation in A Dark and Twisted Tide but this time she is no longer a detective and is back in uniform as a Police Constable with the Marine Unit, patrolling London’s River Thames, after requesting a transfer after some very difficult and life threatening cases.
As well as working on the Thames with the Metropolitan Police Marine Unit Lacey is also living on a houseboat, wild swims in the Thames and seems happy and contented although still as reckless as ever (swimming in the murky, dirty and fast flowing River Thames proves that). That is until a body rises from the riverbed wrapped in a linen shroud, and is the start of a new case that she was so desperate to avoid.
Bodies of young women are being found in the Thames but there is no obvious signs of murder, just the strange linen shroud they are all wrapped in suggests something sinister. She finds the first body and is soon dragged into the case with a little help from a mysterious swimmer who appears to be stalking her. Is she being stalked to be a victim, are her secrets soon to be found out? Lacey’s world is about to fall apart again. And is there really a mermaid to be found swimming in the Thames?
A Dark and Twisted Tide is another fascinating and thrilling crime novel from Sharon Bolton and like the previous three is a captivating and intense read. The author really knows how to write an excellent thriller that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go until the turn of the final page.
With the same cast of characters from the 3 previous novels providing interesting subplots, DI Tulloch who is still unconvinced about Lacey and undercover cop Mark Joesbury; Lacey’s love interest who now finds himself in some really hot water, you will find it extremely hard to put this book down.
A fantastic and pulsating read.
