Working from home has grown in popularity over the years and since (the dreaded word), COVID, a lot more companies are open to the idea of letting their employees work from home. And it’s no surprise when you think there are a lot of benefits, from reducing business operational costs and freeing up space in the office, to helping improve productivity and keeping your employees happy.

So, has your company agreed to let you work from home, and are you starting to get ready for it? Have you purchased a scanner yet? A new desk, a desk chair and a computer screen? To help you get started, below we have put together a list of things you should consider when getting yourself prepared for working from home.

Computer Screen

When you work from an office, you’ll have a computer screen to connect your laptop to and this shouldn’t change when working from home. You should try to get one as soon as possible and get it set up, so you know it’s working, ready for when you start.

Desk Chair

A good desk chair is vital, considering you spend most of your day sitting in it. When buying one, you need to make sure it’s supportive, helps your posture, it’s durable and aesthetically, it fits with the look of your room.

Desk

We mentioned a good desk chair is vital, and so is a good desk for the same reasons as above. Your desk should be set to the right height so that you don’t hurt your lower back and the material should be durable, as you’ll be using it every day. If your budget allows it, you may want to look into getting a standing desk. They are more expensive than your standard desk, however, there are a lot of benefits – you should try and win one by entering a competition.

Lighting

Getting the right lighting in your office will help with concentration and reduce fatigue when looking at a screen for a long time. You may need to change the bulbs in your main lights or purchase some lamps, which you can place around the room. Don’t underestimate how important good lighting is. And if you enjoy tech, you could go down the route of smart bulbs which you can connect to your phone or Alexa and Google Home.

Office Furniture

Depending on your job, you may require different pieces of office furniture in your home office. For example, you may need a filing cabinet? You may need a scanner? You may need a large printer installed? All these have costs attached to them, but your company should contribute to some of them if they are needed.

Are you going to be working from home and when will you be starting? What things have you been getting ready for when you work from home? Is there anything missing in our guide that you think we should be adding? Let us know in the comment box below, we look forward to hearing from you.
