Fum by Karl Newson Review

Fum

Regular readers of my blog knows that I love to read and think reading should be encouraged. I have 4 year old twin boys in the house and we are always delighted when we receive new books, The children especially like books from Maverick Children’s Books. We were recently sent a copy of Fum, written by Karl Newson and illustrated by Lucy Fleming, and the boys couldn’t wait to read it. The image on the cover of a small child standing on a man’s head was appealing.

Fum is the tale of a giant family, the Crumbs, and the smallest Crumb has gone missing. Fum is the smallest of a large family of 7 giants. The Crumb family is made up of Pa, Ma, Grandpa Plum, Fee, Fi, Fo and of course, Fum. So Fum has gone missing and no one knows where he is. The rest of the Crumb family set about looking for him and this book follows their adventures through other fairy tales to try and find him.

Fum is a fun rhyming story. Both boys loved the lyrical content and trying to see if they can find Fum on the pages.

The is well-written by Karl Newson and Lucy Fleming has done an excellent job of illustrating the story. The illustrations are bright and colourful and clearly show what is happening throughout the story, allowing non-readers to join in with the story-telling.

Fum is an excellent fun and interactive story. At 32 pages it makes great bedtime reading. The boys loved this book and it is regularly part of the bedtime reading at the moment.

Children and adults will love reading Fum.

Rating: 5/5
