A Year in Impressionism Review

Impressionism

Christmas is just a month away and the gift hunting has begun in earnest. While it can be difficult at the best of times to find that perfect gift, what do you get for an art lover? Works of art can be very expensive!

What about a book of perfectly reproduced pictures of renowned works of art from world famous Impressionist artists such as Renoir, Gauguin, Degas, Cezanne, Monet, and Seurat as well as works from lesser known artists such as Lovis Corinth, Childe Hassam, Lesser Ury, Peder Severin Krøyer, and Dame Laura Knight.

A Year in Impressionism features 365 Impressionist paintings, that’s one for each day of the year! The book is spread out over 736 pages in beautiful full colour. For art lovers and art students this hardback book is a perfect gift.

The 20x20cm book is laid out with a two page spread for each picture, the right side page shows the image, while the left side page shows the artist name, birth and death dates, the title of the picture, the size of the original painting and method used (i.e. oil on canvas, gouache on cardboard etc.), plus a large blank space for jotting down your own notes and observations about the image you are viewing.

A Year in Impressionism would make a perfect coffee table book for art lovers to flick through and enjoy the art. It would also be perfect for students studying Impressionism as it features the basic info and plenty of space to add your own comments, such as what you take from each picture rather than the authors own opinion. Art is very subjective so having the space to add your own thoughts is a brilliant idea, rather than an author telling you their thoughts which may not match your own.

If you love Impressionist art and want to treat yourself or want to get the perfect Christmas gift for an art lover, then I don’t think you can go wrong with A Year in Impressionism.
