Yumbox Panino Lunchbox Review

Yumbox

The Yumbox is a child’s lunchbox that is sturdy, durable, leak-proof and helps maintain a balanced, portion-controlled diet.

The Yumbox is a leak-proof lunchbox and comes in 3 designs (Classic, Panino and Mini Snack). For review I received the Panino in green. I choose the Panino because although it only has 4 compartments, compared to 6 on the Classic version, one of the compartments is larger so can accommodate a sandwich, so perfect for the children as they get older.

So what’s the big fuss over a lunchbox I hear you ask? You can pick up lunchboxes and lunchbags for a fraction of the cost of the £24.95 retail price. That’s a good question and I can assure you though it may seem expensive it is more than just a lunchbox and worth the outlay.

The Yumbox is a hard plastic box, measures approx. 22x15x5cm and weighs 490g, and has an internal tray separated into 4 compartments (6 in the case of the Classic). Now for the stuff that makes it far superior to cheaper, basic lunchboxes; firstly it is leak-proof – you can pack it with wet and dry foods without them spilling over each other (not liquids), and secondly – the compartment sizes are perfect for creating a balanced lunch with perfect portion control.

The Yumbox is made from all food-safe materials, BPA-free and phthalates-free. Sturdy ABS (outer box), Tritan (tray) and Silicone (seal).

So does it work? We decided to try on a recent visit to the park. Included in the box we added a sandwich, yogurt and fruit (all with no packaging) and set off to the park. With all the movement in the bag nothing leaked out of the compartments or out of the box and all the food stayed in its correct place. Once in the park, as soon as the children got it out of the bag they dropped it and thanks to the sturdy design no damage was caused to the box and the food inside was intact.

The box is very easy to open, even for toddlers. The internal tray is removable so is easy to clean.

Overall, I think the Yumbox is a great lunchbox. Not only is it sturdy, durable and leak-proof but the portion control compartments are excellent for a child’s balanced diet. The only small negatives, if I wanted to picky, is the lack of a carry handle and maybe it could have a slot underneath the tray to slide in a slim ice pack to keep the food cool. That said the Yumbox does fit into standard sized lunch pouches which tend to have a carry handle and room for an ice pack.
