The events industry has had a tough time of it over the last year or so, with most events getting cancelled and the industry in general being severely restricted around the world by pandemic limitations. But things seem to be getting back to normal, slowly but surely. With that in mind, we’re going to take a look at some of the tech that’s shaping the industry and will continue to do so in the years ahead as it bounces back from the pandemic.

Social Media Targeting Tools

These days, a big part of the focus that businesses in the events industry have is on targeting the right people and making them aware of the event. That counts for business events targeting a corporate audience, as well as for music festivals targeting teenagers. Social media targeting tools, especially the range of tools available on Facebook, has made this so much easier for businesses in this industry.

RFID Technology

RFID technology can be used in lots of exciting ways. Most importantly in the events industry, it’s an easy way of controlling access. People with tickets can arrive and swap their ticket for an RFID wristband, for example. That way, they can simply have that wristband scanned every time they go in or out of the event area. It makes access quick and simple for everyone.

Security Tech

In recent times, it’s become increasingly important to ensure security at events is up to scratch. And that’s why technology surrounding inspection systems has to be up to scratch, and event organizers have to be using it. Inspection tech involves x-raying and metal detecting to ensure no weapons are allowed into busy venue areas where they could do serious harm.

Analytics Software

Analytics software is important because businesses in the events niche need to be able to look back at how their events went and where things could have been handled better. Handling data and analytics of various kinds is something that makes all of that a lot easier than it might otherwise be. Most businesses in this niche now handle lots of data and make use of analytics software to interpret it and learn from it.

Event Specific Apps

A new trend in the world of events is event specific apps. This is when a brand new app is created purely for the purposes of that event. It might give attendees an idea of what’s going on by providing a detailed breakdown of the schedule. And if the event is taking place over a substantial area, the app can also provide directions and a map of the site too. All of that stuff helps a lot.

There are lots of new and interesting technologies currently being used in the events industry, and the ones we’ve discussed here today are just the tip of the iceberg. There are also attempts to integrate VR and AR into the event-going experience for attendees, so we’ll see where that takes the industry next. It’s an exciting time; that’s for sure.
