ASUS T200TA Transformer Book Review

T200TA

The ASUS T200TA Transformer Book is the perfect laptop / tablet hybrid for anyone on the move.

I recently purchased an ASUS T200TA Transformer Book, a hybrid laptop and tablet PC, and I love it. It has full laptop capabilities, including a 500GB hard drive for storage, with a touch screen or if you prefer you can remove the screen and use as a tablet PC (once the screen is disconnected from the base you no longer have use of the hard drive).

This 2-in-1 computer is perfect for all my portable computing needs, as I usually carry around my laptop and tablet, now I can do so in one unit. The thin sleek blue design looks great and is packed with features including a micro SD card reader, micro USB and micro HDMI ports and only weighs around 1.6kg.

So why did I want a hybrid laptop? While I find a tablet great for emails, internet, video and looking up information, for me it isn’t the best thing to work on all day, especially when typing reviews or adding them to my website. So for day to day work I use my laptop or desktop PC. Having a hybrid means I have the best of both worlds and if I do need to work while out and about I can still do so much easier. The detachable keyboard also has an internal 500gb hard drive as external storage so when I am using as a laptop I still have access to my files without the need for cloud storage or other storage devices to carry around, as I don’t always have an internet connection when out having access to my files is a must. I have used other hybrid laptops / tablets and this is this first one I have used that has a hard drive (I’m sure there are others).

The T200TA Transformer Book came pre-loaded with Windows 8.1 but had a free upgrade to Windows 10 which I have done, an 11.6″ touch screen, a 1.46Ghz Intel Quad Core processor and 2gb RAM. The tablet has 32gb of storage space and as I mentioned there is the extra 500gb in the detachable keyboard base so perfect for work and play.

The screen itself is crystal clear with bright and vibrant colours and is very quick and responsive to touch along with being accurate to finger touch (some cheaper tablet touch screens I have used in the past can be quite slow and unresponsive or not quite calibrated correctly).

Once docked you can use the trackpad to move around just like a regular laptop and you can also use the touch screen. The dock also has USB 2 and USB 3 ports so you can still connect USB devices.

Overall the ASUS T200TA Transformer Book is packed with features including WiFi and Bluetooth connections. It is lightweight so easy to carry around, it weighs approx. 1.6kg with the keyboard dock attached. The screen is bright and clear and the speed is fast enough for everything I need to do. This is the perfect computer for home and office use.

It is also equipped with a front 2mp camera and a rear 5mp camera so is perfectly for picture taking and video chat and give great quality images.

Some tablets can sound tinny but this has 2 speakers giving excellent sound quality and it also has a headphone jack so you don’t annoy others while watching your favourite film or listening to mp3’s.

Now as I use out and about a lot battery life is important and the Transformer Book battery lasts around 10 hours before needing a charge which is plenty for me (depending on how you decide to configure it for battery use, i.e WiFi and Bluetooth turned off).

I would highly recommend an ASUS T200TA Transformer Book for business or pleasure. The dual functionality and the extra storage space with the built in hard drive is a must for anyone that requires more than just email and internet usage.

So far I haven’t come across any issues or niggles with it and it is getting a lot of use for work and play (especially using with Netflix).
