STM Myth Laptop Backpack Review

STM Myth

Many of us are currently working from home where possible, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Once this strange situation is over and people start going back to the office, I can see a lot more continue to work from home. I work from home and travel a lot between Manchester and West Yorkshire (or did before non-essential travel was banned) and have to take my laptop with me all the time so that I can continue to work. Whilst a laptop is not that heavy, when you have it on your back along with everything else you might have packed, the bag can get quite heavy. So, a good quality and comfortable bag is a must have.

I am a big fan of STM Goods and their laptop bags. They are expensive, but worth every penny as the quality is excellent. They have put a lot of thought into the design to maximise space and ensuring that they are extremely comfortable to wear. If you are going to invest a lot of hard-earned money in a laptop then a laptop carrying bag is something that should be considered. After all, if you are lugging it around here, there, and everywhere you don’t want it to get damaged.

STM Goods are well known for their laptop bags and tablet cases, an industry leader that offer excellent quality and durable protection. I was delighted to receive the STM Myth Laptop Backpack. It is available in two sizes: 18l and 28l.

The STM Myth Laptop Backpack I received was the larger size of 28l, in Slate Blue colour (also available in Granite Black and Windsor Wine). The blue colour is very stylish, and I was pleased with the colour (usually I go for black).

I now have a new backpack for my laptop, but what is so special? It is just a carry bag to transport my laptop in, isn’t it? Well yes, it is a backpack for a laptop but so much more as well.

This bag will fit most laptops with a 15” screen (fits my Dell Inspiron perfectly) or a 16” MacBook Pro. It has 11 pockets (18 if you count the small internal pockets for credit cards etc.), so has a massive amount of storage for your electronic devices, paperwork, and anything else you require:

  • 2 external side pockets
  • 1 open front pocket
  • 3 external zippered compartments:
    • 1 zippered laptop storage compartment with paperwork storage compartment inside
    • 1 middle storage compartment with 2 internal zippered pouches and 1 open compartment
    • 1 front zippered compartment with a zippered internal compartment and 7 small storage pockets

The bag is 100% polyester and is coated to make it water repellent. It features SlingTech technology to protect your laptop in a way that a cheap laptop bag or standard backpack cannot. SlingTech features extra padding and gapless corners that suspends your laptop away from the edge of the bag, isolating it from the bump zone. This stops the laptop getting bumped or damaged when placed on the ground. It even has a fleece-lined storage pocket for your laptop, and a smaller one for sunglasses to stop them getting scratched. The air channel back panel system promotes air flow, helping to keeps you cool and comfortable. STM have even put a lot of thought into the zippers, fitting reverse coil zippers to protect zipper teeth and helping to keep moisture and grunge out.

If that wasn’t enough, the bag has an internal cable management system so that if you have your phone, laptop or tablet safely in the bag, you can charge them using a powerbank whilst having all the cables hidden out of the way. You can route cables through the different compartments and there are cable clips in the centre compartment to tidy the cable out of the way.

And the last feature is the luggage pass through. This is on the back of the backpack and allows you to put the backpack over the handle of a pull along suitcase. I love this idea.

I love this STM Myth laptop backpack. Not only because it looks good and is functional but is extremely comfortable to wear with a good weight distribution. And I love the water repellent coating, something that is needed for travelling in the UK.

It is so comfortable to wear, and I experienced little sweating on my back. I also have not had any back or shoulder ache during or after use.

Looking at the backpack initially, it is just another backpack. But on using it, it is so much more. The 28l gives up a massive amount of storage space. But the comfort and durability are excellent. Initially I thought that the quite rigid back would be an issue, but it makes the backpack easier to wear.

The STM Myth Laptop Backpack is a stylish and functional bag, packed with features that makes it comfortable to wear whilst doing an excellent job of protecting my laptop and other items. The only thing I would have liked to see is a mesh bottle holder on the side in place of one of the side pockets.
