Should You Make Your Favourite Holiday Haunt Your New Home?

Holiday

Do you go to the same place for your holidays every year? Do you spend every available minute of the day daydreaming about packing your bags and visiting your favourite holiday haunts? If so, is it time to think about making a holiday destination your new home? Here are some of the pros and cons of relocating to a much-loved holiday spot.

The pros: why you should make the move

Creating opportunities
Sometimes in life, change can inspire and motivate you. If you’re stuck in a rut, a change of scenery can do you a world of good. With a move, you have new things to focus on and new challenges to overcome. You’ll enjoy a refreshed routine, and you can meet new people. If you’re used to holidaying in the same location, you may already be familiar with the area, and have some friends around. This can make the move less daunting, and give you a security blanket if you’re worried about missing others. Having friends can also open doors to new relationships. They can introduce you to their friends, and get you involved in the local community.

Taking a risk
A holiday is very different to everyday life. It’s a risk to relocate to a place you probably only visit for a couple of weeks a year. But sometimes, taking risks pays off. This could be your chance to switch job, try new hobbies, or even set up your own business. If you don’t take the plunge, you’ll never know.

Lifestyle changes
Often, holiday spots are relaxing, tranquil places. You go there to escape and recharge your batteries. If you move, you’ll need to adjust to a lifestyle change. You may be swapping the daily grind and a commute on a packed, sweaty bus for a 5-minute walk to work in the fresh open air. You might work shorter hours or have the option to work from home. If you’re stressed at work, it’s worth considering if a lifestyle change is what you need. We all have to deal with stress, but if it’s a daily battle, there’s no harm in trying something different.

The cons

The upheaval of moving
Moving house is stressful enough, without moving state or relocating abroad. It’s not just the packing and searching for an interstate removalist firm. It’s also changing jobs, thinking about schools and finding somewhere to live. In some respects, a move is a chance to make a fresh start. But it’s also a lot to take on, so think carefully.

High expectations
If you’ve had wonderful holidays in the past, you may think every day will feel like you’re on vacation. Sadly, the reality of day to day life will soon hit. Even if the place is magical, it’s bound to lose its sparkle to some degree when you start living a normal life there. You won’t be able to spend every morning at the beach or enjoy leisurely lunches overlooking the sea every day. If you’re used to a frenetic pace of life, there is also a risk that you’ll get bored easily.
