The German beer festival is a global phenomenon that attracts millions of punters every single year. However, if you’ve already been to Munich or don’t like the thought of the huge crowd, you may want to look at using the event as an excuse to visit the USA!

There are many ways to enjoy a vacation in style. Here’s how to make the most of the beer festival in America.

Where & When?

Many cities and towns across the globe hold beer festivals in homage to Munich’s famous event. However, since 1990, Frankenmuth in Michigan has enjoyed annual events. The town is known as Michigan’s Little Bavaria, making it the perfect place to celebrate the German culture as well as beer in general. After all, this was the first event to gain official recognition from the original event in Munich.

The town also holds an annual Bavarian festival, but Oktoberfest is the best time to visit. In 2018, the event runs from September 20th to September 23rd. Tickets for the 29th annual event are just $10 too. With great entertainment, including live bands, it’s sure to be another incredible few days.

Getting To Frankenmuth

Bishop International Airport (30 miles) and Capital Region International (80 miles) are the two nearby big airports. Domestic flights may arrive to MBS International and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Those two are 33 miles and 101 miles from the town, respectively.

Public transport facilities are fairly good. Likewise, several coaches and private taxi services are available in the days surrounding the festival. Alternatively, Enterprise car rentals will allow you to make the journey from the airport to the town with immense comfort. Just remember that you might be a little hungover when making the return trip, so you may wish to give yourself an extra day to recover.

The Best Place To Stay?

Frankenmuth does attract regular tourism trade, and there are a few options out there. However, you’ll probably want to book early ahead of the Oktoberfest festival. SpringHill Suites Frankenmuth is probably the most attractive place to stay. In addition to reliable luxury, the location is perfect. Exploring Little Bavaria and the Old Town is very accessible.

The other option is to stay in a neighbouring city, such as Midland or Flint. However, this would sacrifice some of the joys that come from staying in the quaint German-influenced village.

Other Essentials

While Frankenmuth is very accommodating for the tourism trade, you should remember that it is a small place. Therefore, you’ll want to pack the essentials. With highs of 23 degrees and lows of 29 degrees, you won’t need to worry too much about special precautions.

When travelling to America, you’ll probably find that a long weekend in Frankenmuth is enough. So, combine this with a few days in Detroit or Grand Rapids. The combination of excitement in the small town with the big adventures of the city will serve you very well indeed.

Frankenmuth offers a great beer festival and so much more. If you’ve been looking for the perfect American adventure, this is it.
