Packing Tips You Must Know When Moving House

Packing

Picture this: you’ve chosen a new home after months of house hunting. Your home has sold recently too, and the long-winded mortgage applications have all gone through. Now you’re left with the task of packing and actually moving to your new house. All of which needs to be done in a timely and stress-free manner, right? Well, that is the aim anyway. However, it doesn’t always happen as there are so many different things to arrange and organize when it comes to moving home.

What do you pack when? How soon do you need to let your bank know your new address? Will you move yourself or can you afford movers to help you? All of these questions and more need to be answered. But if you read these house moving tips you may not have considered; it should help you to know what to do and when. Then you can try and have as stress-free move as possible. Good luck!

Pack Early

It makes sense that the larger the house, the longer it is going to take to pack it all up. If you have a large house full of things to pack, then you could need around two months to get it all done, presuming you choose to pack a box a day. Smaller homes and a month might be all that you need. But as soon as you know you’ll be moving soon; get packing!

Start With Least Used Rooms

Again, this probably makes perfect sense, but start with the rooms in the house that you use the least. You won’t be needing the items in there on a daily basis, so works when you’ve got a lot of things to pack up. Seasonal items are always a good thing to pack away first too. Christmas tree and decorations can easily be one of the first things to pack away, for instance.

Pack a Room At A Time

This is an easy win for when you’re unpacking at the other end. But you’d be surprised just how many people don’t do this! When you’re packing up your bedroom, for example, you’re going to want to put the majority of things in your bedroom in the new house, right? So it makes sense to put all of those things in one box and label it up for your bedroom. Then if you have movers, or are doing it yourself, you can put it right in your bedroom when you arrive at the new house. Saving you time and keeping you organized as you know where all of your things will be.

Don’t Overpack Your Boxes

It can be tempting to fit in as many things in a box as possible (and you should be filling the gaps with things like newspaper scrunched up). But you don’t want the boxes to break (or your back for that matter), as you lift the boxes and move them. Use small boxes for heavier things, so not much else fit in it, and use larger boxes for lighter items as more will fit in there.
