With the Christmas and New Year festivities now out of the way and life hopefully getting back to some kind of structured normality, you will have opened all your gifts and hopefully found homes for all your shiny new stuff. Now you can start to play with what you have received properly. Lots of us will have received, or even treated ourselves to, a new phone or maybe even a camera so we can now snap away until our hearts content. Sadly, we are not all professional photographers and need some help to get the perfect shot (as do the professionals).
Whether you are taking photos or videos for fun (maybe for your social media pages), for creating images to create content on your blog posts or even to add a bit of pizazz to your website you do need a good quality image – no blurry images from shaking hands, no uneven pictures (unless that is the effect you are going for). That is where a good tripod comes in and one that can be adjusted to level an image even on uneven terrain. Joby have created the PodZilla, the perfect flexible tripod that photographers and aspiring content creators will love, I was sent one to try out and love it.
I was sent the Joby PodZilla Flexible Tripod Kit in bright yellow and medium size – it is also available in a large size and grey, red and teal colours. The kit contains the PodZilla Flexible Tripod and a smartphone clamp and has been designed to help you get the best photos and videos from your smartphone or camera.
- Flexible tripod to allow versatile content creation
- Push button locking mechanism for portrait positioning
- 1/4 attachment to support devices weighing up to 1kg(2.2lb)
- Includes Phone Clamp with double cold shoe attachment
- Holds smartphone with widths of 6.7-8.8cm (2.6-3.5”)
Everybody knows what a camera tripod looks like – usually a three-legged stand that holds your phone or camera. The PodZilla is the same but very different and much more versatile. Each of the three legs are fully articulated so that they can be bent to different angles and heights and even wrapped around other objects. You might want to wrap it around a fence post, park railing or even a bed frame to enable you to record images when there is no surface to stand a tripod. With the legs being so flexible it also allows you to stand the tripod on uneven terrain much more easily. It is also quite comfortable to hold if you like to take lots of selfies.
Overall, The Joby PodZilla is an excellent quality and versatile tripod kit that is perfect for phones and cameras, suitable for beginners and professionals. Not only can it be used like a standard tripod but the flexible legs, constructed with a durable aluminium core and covered in grippy rubber, also make it so easier to get a level image and you can even wrap the legs around objects to get hard to reach images from your phone or camera.
The legs of the tripod are very easy to manipulate but feel very sturdy and strong. The top of the tripod has a ball joint that by pressing a button on the side allows you to move it around at different angles to easily obtain shots at varying angles.
The phone clamp is excellent. The medium version will securely open to hold phones with widths of 6.7-8.8cm (2.6-3.5”) – it securely held my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The clamp effortlessly screws on to the thread on the top of the ball joint on the tripod. When not in use, it twists around to a smaller piece for easy storage.
The Joby Flexible Tripod Kit really does make taking photos and videos simpler and helping to give a much more professional output. Being able to bend the legs of the tripod to be more stabile on uneven surfaces and effectively tying the tripod to things to create better angles for shots is so easy and gives an advantage over standard tripods. The quality of the tripod and clamp feels very good and it is all lightweight enough to carry around with you.
For any budding photographers and content creators then the Joby Flexible Tripod Kit is the perfect phone/camera accessory. And at £37 it really isn’t that expensive. An excellent quality accessory that will get lots of use.
