Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks Review

Scrumptious Snacks

Be warned! Some of the scrumptious snacks are not exactly scrumptious!

As I have said in previous reviews of the Jesper Jinx series (Jesper Jinx, Jesper Jinx and the Sneezing Season, Jesper Jinx and the Turkish Pepper and Jesper Jinx Goes Fishing), I love Jesper and his antics but Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks has to be my favourite so far (maybe because the school bully gets his comeuppance in a very gross way!).

If case you haven’t had the chance to read any of the Jesper Jinx series yet, Jesper is 11 years old and lives in Puffington Hill on the South Coast of England. He lives with his football loving, travelling soap salesman dad, his stay-at-home mum who cooks, cleans and still finds time to bake homemade cherry pies, Melinda (arch-enemy) is his 12 year old sister and, of course, the family pet, Snowy the cat. His best friend is Oliver “Oliver” Oliverson and the pair of them love Boredom Breakers (aka playing pranks on people, especially Melinda). The biggest problem with Jesper is that if something can go wrong, it will whenever he is involved.

Now as Jesper still hasn’t been told of the existence of these books as the author wasn’t given permission to publish the stories (they were only supposed to be written for Jesper’s eyes only!) the Secrecy Agreement is still in place and MUST be signed before continuing with the book. By signing the agreement, the author gives you permission to read the stories. But remember DON’T TELL JESPER!

In Jesper Jinx and the Scrumptious Snacks we find stories of Jesper’s adventures involving food. It starts with Jesper convincing Melinda that she in eating bat guano! And when mum’s cherry tree goes missing from the garden she is unable to make her homemade cherry pie, with fresh cherries from her tree, for the Silly Old Scribbler (the author, Marko Kitti) when he comes for tea. Melinda then takes a giant jelly snake sweet to get her revenge on Jesper for his bat guano prank. While being chased by the school bully Jesper finds a chocolate bar, 15 years past its Best Before date and 4 years older than Jesper, and uses it to his advantage to get back at the school bully – this creates the best Boredom Breaker EVER!

We are also introduced to Jesper’s 10 year old cousin, Delbert, who if the rumours are to be believed is an International Secret Agent, albeit a Reluctant Spy.

And to end a fun-filled collection of stories we end with a recipe book of some Scrumptious Snacks; Lemon Flavoured Bat Guano Sultanas, Scribbler’s Breakfast, Mum’s Faux Cherry Pie and Ancient Chocolate Bar.

Overall, this is my favourite of the series so far, purely for the juvenile way that Jesper gets payback on Jake the school bully! This, as with the rest of the series is humorous, well-written and has some great characters. The author manages to involve the reader in the story and believe me, they are fun stories to invest the time in reading.

If you love juvenile humour, pranks, sibling rivalry, adventure and fun then pick up the Jesper Jinx series today!
