Interior Design Tips Your Home Will Thank You For

Design

You don’t need to be a professional interior designer to create a home that looks like it belongs in a magazine. All you need are some tried and tested interior design tips to help you get the look you want. Read on for some tips your home will thank you for!

Add More Mirrors

If you have a small space or your light sources are limited, add more mirrors. This will help to reflect more light around your home. It’ll also give the appearance of more space in your home, which is great if you have a small place. Large mirrors are great in the lounge and bathroom, but you can get as creative as you like with them. How about a wall of mirrors of different shapes and sizes?

Come Up with Your Colour Scheme First

Before you buy any accessories or anything of the sort, make sure the first thing you come up with is your colour scheme. You can then buy things based on the scheme you’ve chosen. If you don’t choose this first, things can get a little messy and confusing in your home. Use a colour wheel to help you choose the colours that go perfectly together. If you want something a little different, you could even choose some contrasting colours.

Make Neutrals Look Better with Texture

If you prefer to have a neutral décor, that’s fine too. However, it’s easy for neutral décor to look flat and boring. Make sure you incorporate some texture to add interest to your neutral décor. You can do this with rugs, cushions, curtains, throws, and so much more. There are plenty of tutorials if you want to make sure you get this right.

Use Colour the Smart Way

Take the size of your home into account and make sure you use colour the smart way. As well as selecting colours you really like, you want to make sure they are giving off the right impression in your home. Lighter colours can help a place look larger, while darker colours will make a place look smaller. You may also want to look into the psychology of colours before making a decision. Blue is a great colour for the bathroom, for instance, as it can promote feelings of well-being and tranquillity. However, you wouldn’t want to use red in there, or in the bedroom for that matter. Red can be far too stimulating in these rooms, when all you should be doing is relaxing. Purple can give feelings of luxury, and green can give a natural feel. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions

Layer Up Different Items

Learn how to layer up different items to give your home more dimensions and make it appear far more cosy. You can layer up your bed for instance, adding throws and cushions. You obviously won’t sleep on them all, but they will make your bed appear far more comfortable, and even help to give it a ‘designer’ feel. You can even layer up multiple rugs in your living room to add interest and style.

Don’t Buy Furniture from The Same Set

So many people choose a set of furniture, but if you do this, you’re missing a trick. Buy furniture from different sets to add personality and interest to your decor. Let’s say you’re buying chairs for a dining table; you can pick two of each style you like to make sure there’s at least a little uniformity going on. You can also make sure there are some similar elements so that nothing looks too out of place. However, you don’t have to. You can completely mix things up if you want! If you’re desperate for some furniture, you could look into instalment loans to help you. Just make sure you can afford the repayments. Nobody wants to sit on the floor, but you don’t want to be in more debt than you can handle either!

Add an Element of Luxury

Consider adding an element of luxury to your home. You can do this by choosing light fittings like chandeliers, and by adding metallic accents. Choosing statement accessories is another good idea, but you want to make sure you take your time. You don’t want too many of these, as they can overcrowd your home and create visual clutter.
