Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner Review

Karcher FC5

I have vinyl flooring throughout the house, except the bedrooms, as it is much easier to keep clean, especially with 5-year-old twins running around. I regularly sweep and mop the floors and assume they are clean. That is until I tried the Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner and saw how much more dirt it picked up!

The Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner is a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a mop. It vacuums up light debris while washing the floor at the same time, while sucking up any excess water meaning the floors dry a lot faster. It saves me having to do two cleans, and does it much better!

Once it arrived and I unboxed it, it needed some very simple assembly; I had to insert the handle in unit (just pushes down until it clicks) and attach the rollers. It features a 2-tank system (one for clean water and one for the dirt water and debris collection), the clean water tank slots into the front and the dirty water tank into the back. It also comes with a storage base so that the cleaner can stand upright when not in use.

Using the cleaner is very simple, although the instructions that come with it are not very clear and make it seem more difficult at first glance. I found it much simpler to watch a “how to use” video on YouTube.

Once you have assembled the cleaner, you add a cap full of detergent (small bottle is supplied) to the fresh water tank and fill with water to the maximum line. You then need to stand the cleaner in the supplied stand and add a maximum of 50ml of water into the stand. Switch on the cleaner for a few seconds, while still in the stand, to moisten the rollers and then you are ready to go.

The cleaner is quite light at 5kg, and when switched on the movement of the forward rollers move it effortlessly across the floor (if you didn’t need to hold it upright it would go across the floor by itself so make sure you’re holding on to it when you switch it on).

I used it to do all the hard floors in my house and only took around 10 or 15 minutes. So, was it any good? It is absolutely brilliant, the amount of dirt it took up from what I thought was an already clean floor was mind-blowing! The dirty water tank was half filled with black water, which was a big surprise as I had swept and mopped the floors that morning!

The cleaner body swivels so it is extremely easy to manoeuvre and get under furniture and features edge to edge rollers so you can get right up to the edge of the skirting boards.

The rollers can be removed after use and cleaned in the washing machine and the dirty water tank is easily removed for emptying, without having to touch the water. I would recommend emptying the tank down an outside drain or have a filter on the sink to collect any debris that may have been vacuumed up so that it doesn’t clog the sink.

The Karcher FC Hard Floor Cleaner is a powerful floor cleaner and the results are excellent. While I initially thought the price tag of £249.99 was on the pricey side, after using it I can definitely say it is worth the money and gives excellent cleaning results which a sweeping brush and a mop & bucket just can’t compete with.

Excellent cleaning results.
