Didriksons Kids’ Winter Coats Review

Winter Coats

Earlier this year I reviewed some lightweight rain coats from Didriksons that were fantastic and did a fantastic (and will do for a while yet!). Now Summer has long gone, Autumn has disappeared, and we are now into the cold, wet and dark Winter season, time for heavier and more protective winter coats.

Didriksons offer fantastic quality outdoor wear – originally designed for Swedish fisherman over 100 years ago (1913 – as seen on their clothing) and the quality is very evident in the look and feel. Their outdoor wear was designed to adapt to the elements and offers rain, windproof and waterproof protection ensuring that the wearer is kept warm and dry.

Didriksons sent us two new kid’s winter coats for the boys (5 year old twins); the Sten Kid’s Jacket in Plum and the Storlien Kid’s Jacket in Red. Both were size 110 (age 4-5 years) and are slightly big on the boys, but as the boys are on the small size I would say the sizing is true. The coats arrived just in time for our visit to the Manchester Christmas Market, just as the snow was coming down! A great time to try out the coats.

The Sten Kid’s Jacket is available in sizes 80 to 140 (age 1 to 9-10 years) and comes in two colour options; Khaki and Plum. The Sten coat is two-tone – blue on top with khaki or plum on the bottom half. If features the Didriksons STORMsytem, which is 100% windproof and 100% waterproof. I also features adjustable cuffs, adjustable hem, adjustable and detachable hood, detachable synthetic fur, chin guard, ergonomic cut, extend size (there is a seam inside the coat that when cut away the arms can be extended by one size so the coat is able to grow with the child, ensuring you get a longer use of the coat), glove security loop, inside elastic cuffs with thumbhole, inside gaiter, reflective (for those darker nights), a covered zipper at the front and two pockets with snap fasteners. It looks great, feels great and most importantly, does what it is designed to do – keeping the wearer warm and dry!

The Storlien Kid’s Jacket is also available in the same sizes as the Sten but is available in four colour options; Navy, Red, Lilac and Kryptonite Green. It also features the STORMsystem and has the same features as the Sten but with an added snow skirt on the inside.

Once the boys had them on (we already knew they were going to keep them warm as they were both well-padded and had a decent weight to them without being so heavy they would be comfortable) and the cuffs adjusted, off we went to the Christmas Market as the snow started to come down heavier. Both coats did an excellent job of keeping the boys well-protected against the weather. They didn’t complain of being cold despite the -1° temperature and both stayed nice and dry with no leaks through the coats.

Overall, I think these winter coats are excellent. Superb quality, warm, waterproof and look good. The boys also love their new coats. While the coats may be considered on the expensive side (around £90 for the Sten and around £80 for the Storlien), they are definitely value for money and an excellent quality purchase. They can even be extended one size up to extend the life of the coat which I think is a fantastic feature. They have reflective safety strips, which at this time of year when the days are getting darker quicker they kids can be seen in the dark by passing traffic.

These winter coats from Didriksons are perfect for the cold winter months and will last through this winter as well as the next!

Didriksons offer quality coats and outdoor wear that keep children and adults warm, dry and protected from the winter weather. We cannot fault them.
