Edifier S50DB Soundbar Review

S50DB Soundbar

Our televisions take up pride of place in most household living rooms and most people also have one in the bedroom. We watch a lot of television, from terrestrial channels to paid subscriptions to streaming services. For something we enjoy so much, why do we put up with small sound from the television speakers? Don’t get me wrong, the sound is perfectly adequate but could be better. After all, it is reported that the average Briton watches television on average 27 hours per week, that equals a massive 10 years of your life! So when we watch so much and the screen has a high-end picture, why wouldn’t we want high-end sound to go with it?

There are different options to have better sound out of your televisions form 2.1 speakers to home theatre systems and soundbars.

Edifier, a producer of excellent looking and sounding quality speakers for home and personal use – indoors and out, sent me their S50DB Hi-Res Audio Qualified Soundbar, and what a quality piece of kit it is!

The Edifier S50DB Hi-Res Audio Qualified Soundbar is a powered soundbar with subwoofer output. It is Hi-Res Audio Qualified and features three EQ modes for music, movies, and news. One of the great things about this soundbar is its connectivity options – it can be connected to the television using wires or, my favourite, Bluetooth (we all seem to have a mass of cabling behind the television that always seems to get tangled up no matter how neatly we place it and I just haven’t got around to using a proper cable management system yet so wireless is perfect for me). No matter what option you use, it delivers a rich 88w of sound.

The soundbar is equipped Bluetooth, Optical, Coaxial, Line In and Aux Out, giving plenty of ways to connect to your television and other devices. It also has a Sub Out connection so that you can connect a subwoofer to it if you require one – personally I haven’t, as I think the output from the soundbar is more than enough.

S50DB Soundbar

The S50DB completely encompassed soundbar handles high bitrate sound. Audio signalling reaches up to 24Bit/192kHz and its tweeters and mid-bass units enrich the sound.

While a soundbar is perfect, and mostly used, on a television I do also link up my Alexa to it as the Bluetooth connection makes this so easy and vastly improves the sound.

S50DB Soundbar

The soundbar is encased in a dark wood that looks rich and luxurious and enhances the quality of the sound. It measures about 1.1 metre in length and sits perfectly in front on the television (or can be wall mounted behind it should you wish). It has a round LED display that shows the name of the connection you are using and also switches to a graphic equalizer when in use. You can control the soundbar using the knob under the LED display or from the rather funky round remote control that is supplied.

Overall, I love the Edifier S50DB soundbar. It is well constructed, sturdy, looks and feels like a high-quality piece of equipment and the sound is perfect (at low and high levels). It has a variety of connectivity options, so no matter what connections you have on your television you should be able to connect with ease, as well as connecting to other devices such as smart speakers. The S50DB is an easy way to turn your television into a powerful home entertainment system with excellent sound and a stylish look.

You can’t go wrong with Edifier, they always produce high-quality items that sound great and look stylish.
