Room at the Bottom The Complete Series Review

Room at the Bottom

Room at the Bottom is an enjoyable comedy that will keep you entertained.

I was recently asked to watch and review the 1980’s sitcom Room at the Bottom – The Complete Series for What’s Good To Do.

Starring: James Bolam, Keith Barron, Richard Wilson
Certificate: 12
Running Time: 350 minutes (approx.)
No. of Discs: 2 (DVD)
Release Date: 19 October 2015

Room at the Bottom is a comedy series from the 1980’s starring James Bolam as Nesbitt Gunn who is a television drama producer for Megla Television until he is fired and offered a job in Light Entertainment, something he really doesn’t want to do. Keith Barron is Kevin Hughes, the TV studio’s MD and Richard Wilson (aka Victor Meldrew) is the Chaplain Toby Duckworth.

This 2 disc sets contains all 14 episodes over 2 DVD’s; The Siege, The Theatre Tickets, The German Visitor, The Big Prize, A Frame Up, Winter Schedule Part 1, Winter Schedule Part 2, The Birthday Party, The Chef, The Hostage, Witchcraft, The Opera Singer, The Accident and Megla on the Orient Express.

Room at the Bottom is a funny sitcom, although I wouldn’t say hilarious, but very enjoyable. James Bolam is excellent as the downtrodden tv producer that is constantly bullied by his corrupt boss and rivalries between colleagues, the BBC and the affections of his life interest, Celia Pagett-Smythe (Deborah Grant) make for some entertaining episodes.

I enjoyed watching Room at the Bottom, James Bolam is excellent as always and as this is a comedy from the mid-80s political correctness hasn’t taken over and sanitised the comedy making some of the interaction between the characters very funny.

Rating: 4/5
