When I Grow Up I Want To Be… a Good Person! Review

WIGU Good Person

When I Grow Up I Want To Be… a Good Person! is a great story with an excellent underlying moral!

When I Grow Up I Want To Be… is a series of children’s books that covers different professions and life lessons as told through the eyes of the children in the stories. I have previously read four of the other titles in the series; Firefighter, Nurse, Teacher and Veterinarian so I was delighted to receive the newest instalment in this wonderful series – When I Grow Up I Want To Be… a Good Person!

When I Grow Up I Want To Be… a Good Person! is the story of 2 brothers, Blake and Brendan, who have to attend the funeral of a neighbour and they really don’t want to go as will be sad and boring. Their protests fall on deaf ears and their parents insist that they go as a family as Mr Becket was a good person and touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with and to pay their respects  was the right thing to do.

Mr Becket was a kind, caring and decent person and the funeral service is filled with people telling their stories of how he helped them and others and improved people’s lives. Blake and Brendan, along with the reader, learn lessons of what is like to be a good person and how respecting and helping others is very rewarding.

When I Grow Up I Want To Be… a Good Person! is a great story with an excellent underlying moral that will introduce children to being kind, considerate of others, what it means to be a good person and how the kind and caring things you do to help out others will be remembered long after you are gone, all while dealing with the difficult subject of death and funerals.

With its large font and colourful illustrations it is an easy read that children will enjoy while learning about morals and compassion without being preached at.

An excellent story with a great moral teaching. The WIGU series is a great series of books that I think every school should make use of.
