How do you do, Mr Gnu? Review

Mr Gnu

Reading is a great activity and should be encouraged at every opportunity. A good book can spark imagination and help improve language and communication skills as well as providing enjoyment and fun. With 4 year old twins in the house, they love books and love their bedtime stories. They also like to flick through their books retelling the stories in their own words. Books for us are a must and we are always looking for new books.

We love reading books from Maverick children’s books and were delighted to receive How do you do, Mr Gnu? written by Billy Coughlan and illustrated by Maddie Frost.

How do you do, Mr Gnu? is about an antelope that receives an invitation in the post inviting him for tea with the Queen. Mr Gnu decides that before attending this very important meeting he needs to brush up on his manners. After all, he can’t be rude to the Queen.

This delightful and beautifully illustrated book sees Mr Gnu setting off for the Palace and learning manners from the other animals (dog, crow, dinosaur and more) along the way. But will his manners be up to scratch when he meets the Queen? Well I’m not going to say, you will have to read the book to find out!

What I can say is that we found this to be an excellent book. It is beautifully illustrated by Maddie Frost and is bright and colourful and complement the story very well. It also shows that manners are important. It is a fun story and both boys love it, often asking each other “How do you do?”

What better endorsement of a book than 4 year olds both loving, reciting it and always picking it up for their bedtime story.

A great fun book.
