Can a Princess Be a Firefighter by Carole P Roman Review

Can a Princess Be a Firefighter

Don’t settle for being one thing as this little girl finds out in Can a Princess Be a Firefighter!

Carole P. Roman is the award-winning author of the Captain No Beard and If You Were Me and Lived In… series of children’s books and I have always loved these and her other story books as they are always well-written and usually educational or contain a good moral message. So I was delighted to receive Can a Princess Be a Firefighter? for review.

Can a Princess Be a Firefighter? is the beautiful story of a little girl obsessed with being a princess but asking questions about other professions; would she have to be one or the other? The story then explains that she can be a firefighter as well as a princess or any other profession she chooses, and why stick to one; why not be a princess who also fights fires, or practices law, or healing the sick etc…

This book is a great read with a great message that you do not have to fit into stereotypical roles and just because you have an interest in one thing doesn’t mean you can’t also have an interest in other things. A line in the book states “Don’t let anybody limit your dreams” and that is exactly the message children will take away from this book.

The book teaches that you can be anything you want to be, don’t limit your choices, always have options and you are always free to change your mind. You don’t have to be a princess or a firefighter, you can be both!

This book has been illustrated beautifully in cartoon form using pastel colours by Mateya Arkova.

An excellent, well-written story with an excellent message and would be a great addition to any child’s book collection or school library.
