London’s Best Walking Tours

Walking Tours

Like any European city, London is brimming with historical and cultural intrigue, which has made it an exceptionally popular tourist destination for decades. Again, like all European cities, it has one distinct problem. There’s so much to see and do in this incredible city that you’re going to be hard-pressed to get the most out of your time here! To make things a little easier, I’ve listed four of the best walking tours available in London. Enjoy!

Harry Potter Tours

If there’s one tour in London which is perfect for families, then it’s this. These truly magical walking tours will take you around locations from all eight movies. The most popular one explores the City of London, where you’ll get to walk around Diagon Alley and the Leaky Cauldron. Another takes you around Westminster, where you’ll get to see the entrance to the Ministry of Magic. Muggles are more than welcome! These are run by the London Walks company, which has been a huge name in walking tours for decades.

Jack the Ripper Tours

Today, London is a vibrant and fascinating metropolis with something for everyone. It wasn’t always like this though! There’s been a long-running intrigue with the squalid, crime-ridden Victorian period of the city, during which one of the world’s most sinister serial killers prowled the streets looking for helpless victims. The immensely popular Jack The Ripper tours will give you an exhilarating taste of this period. As night falls over the city, you’ll be taken around the places where Jack the Ripper murdered his victims, hearing all about the ensuing investigation and the shocking details of life in Victorian London. Not for the faint hearted!

London Street Art Tours

While you could spend a lifetime learning about the history of London, the contemporary culture is also exceptionally fascinating. The walls of London have been a canvas to the world-famous street artist Banksy for years, but he’s just the tip of the iceberg! These tours are run by a local “graffiti guide”, who knows a lot of the artists personally, and will be able to fill you in on all kinds of intriguing details about the different murals and stencils you’ll visit. These tours generally focus on Shoreditch, a hotbed for street art, but weekend walks also operate around Hackney.

Liar’s London

These are walking tours with a bit of a twist. It’s pretty common to hear locals accusing amateur tour guides of walking around with gullible tourists, making up abstract facts and getting paid for it. “Liar’s London” walks are an entertaining play on this. You get two guides on these walking tours, one of whom tells you verified facts while the other makes up lies, alternating in a random pattern. As you walk from stop to stop, it’s up to you to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s lying. These tours are available in a number of boroughs, including Chelsea, Blackfriars, and Kensington. You’ll not only get some fascinating insight into the city, but also have fun trying to separate fact from fiction!
