AOMEI Partition Assistant Review

Partition Assistant

AOMEI Partition Assistant is a versatile partition management program for Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (32-bit and 64-bit). With its easy user-interface you are able to manage your hard disk partitions easily.

As hard disks are quite big these days (the first one I bought was about 400mb now I have 1TB), they really do need to be partitioned for optimal performance and ease of sorting out files. The problem is the pastis that once partitions were set resizing or merging them became a problem and resulted in you losing the data stored on them.

I have been trying out the AOMEI Partition Assistant which allows you to quickly and easily resize, move, extend, shrink, merge, split and copy your partitions without data loss, and all within Windows.

The FREE Standard (Freeware License) version allows you to:

Resize, shrink, move, extend, merge, create, delete, format, and wipe partitions. It also features A Disk Copy Wizard, Partition Copy Wizard, NTFS to FAT32 Converter, Create WinPE Bootable Media, Windows To Go Creator, Integrate to Recovery Environment and Change partition type ID. It also allows you Convert data disk between MBR and GPT styles and finally Migrate OS from MBR disk to MBR SSD or HDD.

The PAID FOR Professional version (2 PCs/License) allows you to:

Do the same as the Standard version along with; Migrate OS from MBR disk to GPT SSD or HDD, Migrate OS from GPT disk to MBR SSD or HDD, Migrate OS from GPT disk to GPT SSD or HDD, Convert system/boot disk between MBR and GPT styles without data loss, Allocate free space from one partition to another, Partition alignment Quick partition Command line partitioning, Resize dynamic disk, such as spanned, striped, mirrored volume, Convert dynamic disk to basic without data loss, and vice versa, Convert primary partition to logical drive without data loss, and vice versa, Recover lost or deleted partitions Split partition SSD secure erase wizard Extend partition wizard and Change serial number.

Both versions support Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (32-bit and 64-bit).

There is also a Server version available (2 Servers/License) that does the same as the Professional version but supports Windows Server 2003, 2008 (R2), 2012 (R2), 2016, 2019, SBS 2003, 2008, 2011, WHS 2011 (all editions, 32/64-bit).

The paid for versions (Professional and Server) also come with Lifetime Free Upgrades.

Using the software is very simple. The user interface is very basic and free from clutter. It has two sections, Wizards and Disk Operations down the left side of the screen. These options allow you to:

Disk Operations; Copy Disk, Initialize Disk, Wipe Hard Drive, Surface Test, Rebuild MBR, Delete all Partitions, SSD Secure Erase, View Disk Properties

Partition Operations; Resize Partition, Move partition, Merge Partitions, Split partition, Copy partition, Create partition, Delete partition, Format partition, Change Label, Wipe Partition, Change Drive Letter, Hide/Unhide partition, Set active partition, Convert to NTFS, Convert to primary, Convert to logical, Convert GPT/MBR disk, Partition Alignment, Check partition, Wipe Data, View Partition Properties

Wizard Operations and Others; Disk Copy Wizard, Partition Copy Wizard, Extend Partition Wizard, Migrate OS to SSD or HDD, Partition Recovery Wizard, NTFS to FAT32 Converter, Make Bootable CD Wizard, Windows To Go Creator, Partition Assistant Command Lines, Quick Partition, Integrate to Recovery Env

The software has support for FAT, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, Ext2/3/4. IDE, SATA, eSATA, SCSI, SSD, USB external disk, USB flash drive and Firewire (IEEE-1394) hard disk are all supported. Supports all hardware RAID levels. Supports up to 2TB partition on MBR disk and 8TB partition on GPT disk.

Overall, the AOMEI Partition Assistant is a very powerful and easy piece of software to use. It has everything you need to manage your hard disk partitions, copy hard disks and or partitions, recover partitions, move or merge partitions, test your hard drive and even securely erase your data.

The user interface isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing but it is uncluttered and allows you to get the job done quickly and easily.

This free partition manager is a great piece of software for complete hard disk management and you don’t need a degree in computing to understand what to do (although you do need to take care when playing with partitions and I would always recommend backing up your data first if possible).
