In our house we spend a lot of time around the table playing board games, tabletop games and card games. It is the perfect way to get away from the screens of the phones, television, laptops and tablets and spend some quality family time together, to have some fun and relax. Sitting down and playing games together is excellent for having conversations, finding out how each other’s day has gone and getting into the serious business of trying to beat the kids at whatever game we are playing (and the majority of times, they win!). It can also help create a stronger emotional bond between family members.
As a family, we all enjoy game nights. Most of our games are child or family orientated, but as adults we do like to sit and play more grown up games with friends and relatives after the kids have gone to bed. We have old classics such as Monopoly and Scrabble, but our adult game collection is rather sparse. So we were delighted when we received 5 Second Rule Uncensored for review. We have played 5 Second Rule Jr. with the kids and really enjoyed it. We were really looking forward to playing the more grown up version.
Interplay’s 5 Second Rule Uncensored is a game for adults, aged 17 years plus, and is for 3 or more players.

As with the other versions of this game, you have 5 seconds to name 3 things on the card. As this is an “uncensored” version for adults you have to use your naughty side and delve into the depths of your smutty mind to come up with answers. You have fairy innocuous questions such as Name 3 “Things that you can cover in chocolate” or “Things in a bedside table” to the outright dirty such as “Things you shouldn’t do to your anus” or “Ways to have an orgasm”. You only have 5 seconds to come up with three answers. Can you do it in time without getting tongue-tied and flustered?
As any adult knows, you start with “FOREPLAY”, which in the case of this game is setting it up. This is easy and straightforward. Just place the question cards in their box, the timer in the centre of the table, decide how many rounds that you want to play (larger groups is suggested 3 rounds, small groups 4 or 5) and you’re ready to go.
With foreplay finished, it is now time to get into the serious business.
The starting player selects a card and reads it out, then flips over the timer. The timer makes a zoop sound and you have 5 seconds (until all the balls have reached the bottom of the timer) to name 3 things for the topic on the card. It sounds easy, and in theory should be, but with only 5 seconds to name three things, it can be difficult. Being put under pressure has a habit of making your mind go blank! If you can’t name 3 things the next player along has to (without using the answers from any previous player). Once a player has named 3 things, they are awarded the point, keeping that card. If no one can get all 3, the card ends up back with the starting player and they are awarded the point by default. Play then continues with the next player and a new card.
Once the set number of rounds has been completed, or should I say, when you reach “THE CLIMAX”, the player with the most cards/points is the winner.
Overall, we had lots of fun playing 5 Second Rule Uncensored. It is good upgrade on the family version and lots more fun, especially when people start to get embarrassed. A game that is definitely not for the prudish, and certainly not for children. It is really fast-paced and some of the questions are hilarious. Some of the answers your fellow players come up with even funnier. Even some of the more innocuous questions can end up with some truly belly-hurting laughter.
This is an excellent game for a good group or friends and open-minded adults. I can guarantee that you will be falling off your chair with laughter. It will possibly leave you wondering how your best friends would know “foods you can use during sex” or “places you’d find prostitutes”.
5 Second Rule Uncensored is a fun party game. For an evening of fun around the table that is definitely for adults, I can highly recommend it. Although it is probably not something you would want to play with your mum!
